How to play Slitherlink

Make Slitherlink your next activity in the game library. Draw one closed loop whose edges match the count around every numbered cell. Look at what changes after your first action. Compare the starting position with the example in the Guide. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

Ten 4×4 loop puzzles with all cell clues shown.

A useful comparison

Compare the worked example with your own position. Use the reasoning, not an answer copied from a different board. Make the next step deliberately.

Your goal

Draw one closed loop whose edges match the count around every numbered cell. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Take a moment to understand the current position.

Step by step

  1. Click an edge to draw, exclude or clear it.
  2. Count the four edges around each cell.
  3. Do not branch or form separate loops.
  4. Check puzzle verifies every clue and loop connectivity.

Controls

Click or tap squares or graph edges. Number boards include a digit pad. Undo reverses the previous change; Check puzzle validates the solution. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Use the visible help when you are unsure of the next input.

A useful example

A 0 cell has no loop edge around it; a 3 has exactly three. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Notice the change in the playing area.

Watch out for this

Several small loops are invalid even if clues match. Take a moment to reassess the position before continuing. Choose one rule to keep in mind for this round. Apply it consistently rather than guessing what another version might allow.
