How to play Table Tennis

Start Table Tennis by looking at the playing area and its controls. Reach eleven points with a two-point lead. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Check the rule that explains your first action. Look at what changes after your first action.

rally/service model, win-by-two and alternating deuce service.

Make the controls familiar

Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart. Refer to the controls when needed.

Your goal

Reach eleven points with a two-point lead. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Review the board or playing area as it changes.

Step by step

  1. Serve.
  2. Move the lower paddle under the ball.
  3. Hit after the bounce near your baseline.
  4. A missed return gives a point.

Controls

Pointer/paddle buttons; Hit / return; Space serves or hits. Read a button’s label before selecting it. Avoid pressing the same control repeatedly while a move is being processed.

A useful example

An early hit is rejected; wait while positioning the paddle. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Keep the game’s format in mind.

Watch out for this

The ball-flight model is timing-based, not full tournament physics. A different version of the game may use a different rule. After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again.
