How to play Visual Memory

Visual Memory gives you a focused activity to play in your browser. Select every square that was shown. Selecting an unshown square ends the session. Use the example below to understand a decision. Treat the first round as a chance to learn the controls. Look at what changes after your first action.

Notice the feedback

Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention. Make the next step deliberately.

Your goal

Select every square that was shown. Selecting an unshown square ends the session. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Start with a deliberate move.

Step by step

  1. Start a round and watch the highlighted cells.
  2. Wait until the board hides the pattern.
  3. Select the positions you remember; order does not matter.
  4. Complete the pattern to advance.

Controls

Use the on-screen controls with a mouse or touch. Use the control method described here for this activity. Use one clear input at a time.

A useful example

If the four corner squares were shown, select those four corners in any order. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Keep the game’s format in mind.

Watch out for this

Unlike Sequence Memory, this game does not require the original order. Check the rule before repeating the action. After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again.
